Graduate Assistant for the Rhode Island Writing Project
Part-time (10 hours per week)
Primary Purpose
To assist with administrative tasks for the RI Writing Project (RIWP).
Duties and Responsibilities
- Support RI Writing Project presence on social media, at RIC, and with educational and community organizations
- Collaborate with Site Director and Co-Directors on monthly newsletter
- Engage in collaborative research projects related to education
- Help build and support connections with teacher candidates, early career teachers, and veteran teachers (community events, writing workshops)
- Support data collection and analysis of event participation
- Assist in developing materials advertising and describing RIWP work and events
- Participate in marketing and recruitment for RIWP events
- Collaborate on coordinating monthly events
- Design recruitment materials for the secondary English education program
- Other duties as assigned by Site Director and Co-Directors
Qualifications
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Ability to take initiative, think critically, and work independently
- Willingness to accept feedback and revise accordingly
- Experience with the Google suite, Canva, and social media
- Understanding of and willingness to learn skills related to research, quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis
Learning Opportunities
The RIWP essentially acts as a nonprofit that holds events and provides resources for K-16 teachers who teach writing across all content areas. The graduate assistant will gain experience:
- Collaborating with the RIWP Site Director, the Executive Board, and other RIWP teacher consultants to develop promotional and educational materials across different mediums (i.e., flyers, brochures, social media);
- Creating a monthly email newsletter that goes out to hundreds of recipients;
- Doing research and writing up findings;
- Learning the discourses of educational bureaucracies (i.e., RIC and the National Writing Project);
- Ordering merchandise that advertises and supports the RIWP;
- Honing writing skills for professional environments.
